If I cannot complete the Precalculus Preparation Program (PPP) before attending my New Student Conference, may I still participate in the PPP?
Absolutely! At your new student conference, your academic adviser will likely register you for the math course in which you were placed. Once you complete the PPP and score high enough on your Math Placement Exam, you or your academic adviser may register you in the appropriate course.
What if I cannot attend every online session?
As long as you can attend the majority of the online sessions, you should still participate. Every online session is recorded. If you must miss one, you can view the recording and keep up with the rest of your group. Keep in mind, attending the online sessions is the best way to be successful.
How much time per week will this program require?
The Texas A&M Department of Mathematics recommends you spend about 15 hours a week working on activities related to the program. You will meet with your tutor 10 hours per week and you should dedicate at least five to seven hours per week working on assignment given to you by your tutor. The time you spend in the summer improving your math skills is time well spent and will pay off when you get to Texas A&M.
If I work in the summer, can I still participate in this program?
Yes. Please choose a session with online meetings that fit your schedule. If you still have a conflict, contact the PPP director.
What equipment is required to participate in the program?
You will need a computer, a high-speed internet connection, speakers, and a microphone. You will communicate with your tutor and other group members over the internet, so you must have a way to speak to them (a microphone) and a way to hear them (speakers). Some students prefer an all-in-one headset.
Will I receive college credit for taking this course?
No. This is not a credit-bearing college course.
Can I use a calculator in this program?
No. To fully prepare you for your math courses, calculators are prohibited.
